Mission

MRDF was established in 1970 to develop a better understanding of the earth's marine resources and improve the quality of life through education and the responsible use of marine resources for food, fresh water, energy, minerals, and medicine. In 1984, MRDF launched the world's first underwater habitat open to recreational divers and students - the MarineLab Undersea Laboratory. In 1985, the MarineLab environmental education program began and now serves nearly 7,000 students and teachers each year. In 2025, MRDF expanded its programs to the general public at MarineLab Undersea Park & Museum, home of Jules' Undersea Lab. We inspire and empower individuals through marine education to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the ocean, championing its exploration and conservation.
